This classic third generation UV water purifier comes with an additional pre-filter, which rids the water of coarse dirt particles and readies the water for purification by UV light. The classic UV water purifier can be powered with batteries and its UV lamp has a lifespan of approximately 8000 uses. At just 178 grams, the Steripen Classic 3 carries hardly any weight and can easily be stowed in your backpack. A small bulb glows red or green to indicate the successful completion of the treatment process

Fantastic urban water protection

My work takes me all over the world, not to idyllic outdoor environments but usually cities. In places like India the hotels have clear running water - but not safe water. This is where the Steripen has been invaluable. Filling a water bottle with tap water and then treating it in 90 seconds with the device makes it safe to drink - on my travels I have not fallen ill to waterborne contamination when using it; but I have almost immediately when I didn't have it. With no need to rely on bottled water you can drink as much as you want and I feel this also helps to keep you healthy. I usually carry it in my EDC bag and have sometimes treated a glass of water under the table in a restaurant if I was a bit suspicious. I use the classic with rechargeable batteries but the USB one looks good too.
