THE FAMILY WILDERNESS ADVENTURE

This 5 day course extends the Family Wilderness Break, and concentrates more on travelling through the outdoors carrying less equipment, preparing tasty and nutritional trail food, navigating with map and compass through the Forest of Bowland fells, and wild camping while on the trail. The course still concentrates on Bushcraft skills such as wild foods and fire lighting, but puts more emphasise on these techniques and puts them into practice whilst on the move.

On the course we will cover:

  • Knife use and safety
  • Fire lighting, lays and safety
  • Cooking over open fires
  • Map and compass navigation and micro navigation
  • Night Navigation
  • Navigating by  your surroundings
  • How to Travel in Remote areas
  • Equipment, water and food provision
  • Moorland camping

Minimum age of attendance is 8 years old if accompanied by a parent or guardian or with parental consent unaccompanied from age 14.

To gain full appreciation and experience real camping, all students are asked to camp with the Tamarack team.

All food, navigation equipment, stoves and fuel are provided while on the course.
