Friday - You will be met at the designated meeting point at 19 30 and taken to site. When on site you will either erect your own tent/tarp etc or organise your equipment in one of the tents provided. After this we will have coffee and introductions, along with a camp orientation. A light supper is then provided and we talk about the itinerary for the coming week. The lead instructor will then show and explain all the equipment that he carries while out in the woods, breaking this down into the bare essentials to carry to live well while outdoors.Saturday - The day starts with a light breakfast and then into the course. Knife, handsaw and bow saw use and maintenance is the first lesson and a very important one. Then we move onto our first woodcraft project which is a pot hanger. This particular pot hanger uses all the tools and techniques previously shown, to fashion a utilitarian item. After lunch we concentrate on an essential for life, water. We look at different types of water and how to collect, filter and purify for our consumption. Fire is the next subject concentrating on fire safety and the fire hearth, natural and manmade tinder’s, types of firewood, fire leys and other sources of ignition. After you have your fire going you cook bread and fish for dinner and start to carve a spoon. The evening after dinner will be spent carving, and spotting the local wildlife in action along with Archery Practice. Sunday - After breakfast we go down to the river, light a fire and fish for our lunch. While at the river we look at traps and trapping and other hunting techniques. After lunch we take a walk looking for different types of wild foods with plant and tree identification and any animal activity that we can see.
Note: The Itinerary may differ due to site, weather and seasonal changes. |
