Tamarack Bushcraft Survival and Rural skills courses
Not so many years ago our ancestors had at there disposal a wealth of knowledge. This knowledge was pasted down from generation to generation, father to son mother to daughter. The content of this knowledge was vast, encompassing many skills that enabled our forebears to live and thrive in sometimes remote and hostile environs. There environment had everything they needed. Timber for construction, hunting weapons, baskets and other utilitarian items as well as firewood. Stone for fine skinning blades, axes, adzes, spear and arrow heads and other types of tools as well as stone shelters. Wild plants and trees for food and medicinal purposes. Clay soils for bowls, urns, jugs and cooking pots. All the wild animals were respected and some revered but our ancestors utilised them in many ways. The meat was eaten, the skin, bone, horn or antler, teeth and sinew were all used to fashion tools , clothing and other items. In our modern day lives we very rarely have the time , knowledge or the expertise to carry out many of these skills that were honed for thousands of years. In the world of Bushcraft we study, practice and become proficient again in these skills. We also use modern tools and equipment that benefit us in many ways, so we can go further into the world of outdoor living. This modern approach is all part of the evolution of Bushcraft.
