Equipment and Clothing You will need suitable clothing for the time of year and length of the course you are attending. Full details of what you will need to bring can be found on the Equipment and Clothing Page. Accommodation For our Bushcraft courses you will camp with the Tamarack Team on site. This will be in the form of your own tents on the weekend courses and a combination of your own tents and natural shelters on the week long courses. For other courses you can either camp at local camp sites or use local B&Bs or hotels Details of some accommodation options can be found on our Accommodation Page. *(Please note any off site accommodation costs are not included in the Tamarack course fee) Car Parking We suggest as a precaution it is wise to place any valuables out of sight. Students have easy access to their vehicles at any time. Food and Dietary Requirements Please state on your application form if you have any special dietary requirements or known food allergies, so we can take steps to accommodate your needs. On courses involving wild foods you will not be required to eat anything you are uncomfortable about. We do ensure there is sufficient food for 3 meals per day but you are of course welcome to bring along additional food if you wish. Do remember however that whatever you bring you will need to carry. Previous Experience Previous experience is not necessary and there is a minimum age limit of 8 years old on the Family Wilderness breaks. Some of our courses can be quite challenging and a reasonable level of physical fitness would be required to get the most from these courses. However the aims of all Tamarack courses are education and fun so at no time would anyone be asked or persuaded to do anything they felt unable to do. If you have any ailment or disability please contact us our aim is make our courses available to as many people as possible. Alcohol Due to the nature of the equipment, tools and the use of fire on our courses. Consumption of alcohol and non prescription drugs whilst on site is a Total No Go for safety reasons. Any use of illegal drugs will be reported to the police and result in the person being removed from the course. Hygiene During the course we aim to be as true to the environment as we can and therefore do not provide portable toilets and showers. The toilet facilities used are by way of an earth toilet and shower is a portable pack shower that can be provided when ever required. All water is brought in is Tap drinking water. There is no Electricity facility so you will be unable to use electric shavers and hair dryers. Toilet - The toilet facilities used on bushcraft courses consists of Earth Latrine put in a private area of the woodlands. This is quite basic but works well Radios One of the main aims of Tamarack course is to provide an opportunity for people to experience the sights, sounds and peace of the great outdoors. So please do not bring any radios, CD or tape players on site and for the same reasons we prefer you not to bring any musical instruments. Health and Safety Safety is the top priority on all our courses, however any activity in the outdoors carries some risk. Many of our courses involve training in and the use of sharp implements plus the use of fire and water borne activities. It is important that you understand and accept this low level of risk if you are to fully benefit from our courses.
