Patagonia is developed in close cooperation between Helsport and Børge Ousland, and is based on Børges experiences from 30 years of expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Security is always critical on such trips, and this tent has all the necessary details for safe and easy handling during the worst conditions.
The aerodynamic construction is especially important in wind. The tent will not be pushed down in strong winds, but instead the wind will flow over the tent roof. In addition to increased stability, the construction also saves weight, because the tent uses shorter poles and less fabric. The positioning of the poles, as well as their angle also makes the tent extra suitable in extreme wind. Enough height ensures comfort when you get weather-bound.
Patagonia withstands extreme strains, particularly wind, and the strength of the tent can increase even more by using double poles. There is room in all pole-channels, and a double pole-cup is standard. This tent really is optimal for winter-use; every single detail is developed to make sure things works as easily and functionally as possible, and is manageable with mittens. The storm flaps with integrated peg loops is in one piece around the tent. This reduces the pitching time especially during windy conditions. The peg loops are wide and not too long, perfect for pitching the tent with skis. The flysheet har a tear strength of 20 kg, making it one of the most durable in the market.
Ventilation is an important aspect on all tents. Patagonia has two angled vents on both sides that are placed high enough so they do not pack up with snow, despite windy conditions.
In addition there are two centered vents placed high in the front and rear. Together these four vents create a safe and flexible venting system.
- Storm Flaps: The storm flaps with integrated peg loops is
in one piece around the tent. This
reduces the pitching time especially during windy conditions. The peg loops are wide and not too
long, perfect for pitching the tent with skis
- Pole Channels: Patagonia is delivered with a double set of poles, and the pole channels and pole
cups are dimensioned for both one and two poles. Using two poles provide extra safety and
stability. The pole cup and glove-friendly solutions makes pitching and packing easier in extreme
weather. The channels and poles are color coded, for easy and fast-pitching
- Guy Lines: The tent has double guy points on all guy lines. This reduces the number of pegs, and
makes it easier to pitch the tent. To get an even distribution of force on the guy points the guy lines
are connected through rings
- Pegs: Both snow pegs (31 cm) and Helsport (19 cm) aluminium pegs are included
- Inner Tent: Inner tent with 360° zipper for easy opening and ventilation
- Zipper: Patagonia is equipped with a strong zipper that doesn’t freeze. This is based on Børges many
experiences using zippers in extremely cold weather conditions
- Sled Bag: To protect the tent, and make it as easy as possible to pack the sleigh, it comes with a
specially designed sled bag. The technique of packing down
a tent with the poles inside the channels
makes the tent very easy to set up and take down, even in strong winds. This is crucial in
