The Tamarack Rendezvous 2016

This is an annual four day event organised by Tamarack Outdoors and held at Bowley International Scout Camp in Great Harwood.

Everyone is welcome, from young and old, to come and camp and join in all the activities. Over the four days there are lectures, demonstrations, 'how to' sessions and activities for all the family.

The Tamarack Team will be on hand for any technical equipment queries, along with running the Tamarack Café which serves hot & cold food and drinks. There is also a mini Tamarack Store for those forgotten items.

Prices for the event:
£50.00   - Adults
£30.00   - Under 16 year olds (no charge for 3 year olds or under)
£150.00 - Family Ticket (2 Adults and up to 3 under 16 year olds) 

This covers all camping fees and includes all workshops & activities.

Camping is allowed from 15:00 on Wednesday 27th July until 14.00 on Sunday 31st July.
   

You are able to pitch camp next to your vehicle weather permitting, or park close by on the hard standing areas. For those who prefer to use a hammock and tarp you can pitch camp in the woodland area.

Open fires are permitted but they must be raised off the ground, firewood is available for sale on site from Tamarack.

Daily Itineraries
There is always something happening during the day at the Rendezvous. The itinery often runs the lectures/demonstrations in parallel with the activities but we repeat most activities each day, so no need to miss anything.

For ad-hoc activities not listed below, please see the white board during the event outside Tamarack HQ.

Does anyone have a skill and would like to do a demonstration or lecture? You are more than welcome. Please see one of the Tamarack Team in Tamarack HQ during the event.


Thursday Itinerary
 For all events meet at the stated venue a few minutes before the start time.

09:00 -10:00 Safe Use of Cutting Tools
(Location: in the Woodland Area)

Mike Rushton will take you through safe handling and use of the knife, saw, axe and crook knife in this demonstration.

10:00 -12:00 Catapults (Location: at the Ranges)
Have a few shots with these impressive hunting weapons and pick up loads of techniques for safe, accurate pulting with Simon from Wood-Sage.

10:30-12:00 Wild Game Preparation (Location: under the Big Tarp)
Come and join Mike Rushton for this interesting lecture/demonstration on wild game preparation, with the emphasis on having a go yourself.

12:00-13:00 Lunch

13:00-14:00 Basic First Aid (Location: under the Big Tarp)
A basic knowledge of first aid is of paramount importance in the outdoors. Come and join Norrie on this session which looks at the contents of a first aid kit, choking, cuts, bleeding and burns along with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

13:00-15:00 Air Rifle Shooting (Location: at the Ranges)
Lets see if there are any crack shots down on the air rifle range, with Simon from Wood-Sage.

13:00-17:00 Tomahawk Throwing (Location: at the Ranges)
Try your hand at tomahawk throwing with Mark Archer, brilliant fun.

15:30-17:30 Archery (Location: at the Ranges)
Come and join Simon Moorhouse from Wood-Sage for this great sport.

19:00-20:30 Advanced Carving Workshop (Location: under the Big Tarp)
Brian Walsh from Wood-Art will demonstrate some advanced carving techniques to create a beautiful face in wood.


Friday Itinerary

09:00 -10:30 Equipment Lecture 2016 
(Location: under the Big Tarp)

An interesting, informative demonstration of the new/current equipment & clothing that Mike from Tamarack is using while out and about. Plus loads of hints and tips to make that outdoor experience more enjoyable.

10:30 -12:00 Natural Cordage (Location: under the Big Tarp)
Mike from Tamarack will show you how to prepare and make natural cordage from the Common Stinging Nettle.


12:00-13:00 Lunch

13:00-15:00 Air Rifle Shooting (Location: at the Ranges)
Lets see if there are any crack shots down on the air rifle range, with Simon from Wood-Sage.

14:00-16:00 Kids Crafts (Location: at Tamarack HQ)
Come and join the Wood-Sage gang on this really enjoyable crafty session, para cord bracelets, rope making and pottery - ideal for kids old and young.

13:00-17:00 Tomahawk Throwing (Location: at the Ranges)
Try your hand at tomahawk throwing with Mark Archer, brilliant fun.

15:30-17:30 Archery (Location: at the Ranges)
Come and join Simon Moorhouse from Wood-Sage for this great sport.

19:00-20:30 Hammock and Tarpology (Location: in the Woodland Area)
Mike from Tamarack will show you how to safely pitch a tarp and hammock using a knot system that is time served over many years.


Saturday Itinerary

09:00 -10:30 Firecraft 
(Location: in the Woodland Area)

Come and join Mike from Tamarack on this informative fire lighting how-to. Paying particular attention to ground preparation, sourcing firewood, natural tinders, manmade tinders, firewood collection, starting and extinguishing the fire. Then have a go yourself.

10:00 -12:00 Catapults (Location: at the Ranges)
Have a few shots with these impressive hunting weapons and pick up loads of techniques for safe, accurate pulting with Simon from Wood-Sage.


12:00-13:00 Lunch

On Thursday morning Mike from Tamarack demonstrated the safe use of cutting tools, now he will show you how to care, sharpen and maintain them.

Come and join Simon Moorhouse from Wood-Sage for this great sport.

19:00-20:30 Wild Walk (Location: meet at Tamarack HQ)
Mike from Tamarack will take you around the local area looking at various plants, trees, animal tracks/signs, wild foods, natural navigation and many other aspects of a good outdoorsman.


FAQs

Q: What are the facilities at Bowley?
There are toilets, showers, sinks and designated water stand pipes around the site. Along with a number of waste bins.

Q: What if I forget something essential?
Depending what it is, the mini Tamarack Store provides lots of camping items and hot and cold food. However, Great Harwood is a busy town with pubs, shops and a supermarket.

Q: Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are allowed but must be kept either on a lead or under close control. All dog mess must be picked up and disposed of in the correct way.

Q: Can I bring my air rifle, bow, crossbow or shotgun?
The simple answer is NO, with NO exceptions. All equipment for the activities is provided.

Q: Can I pitch a Hammock and Tarp?
Yes, but there are a limited amount of trees suitable for hammocks .


Q: I want to bring my kids, but they are only babies. Can I?
No problem, the Tamarack Rendezvous is a family event - all are welcome.

Q: Do I need insurance to come to the Rendezvous?
Always a good idea to hold some kind of travel insurance coming to any event, even the Tamarack Rendezvous.

Q: Is there a first aid station and how do I know who the first aiders are?
All first aiders on duty will have a high visibility armband displaying the first aid cross. The first aid location is at Tamarack HQ.

Q: Can I bring, wear and use my knife?
Knives can be worn on your person but discreetly. If you are going to leave the camping area or go into Great Harwood ensure all cutting tools are left in the boot of your vehicle or tent.

Q: I don't eat meat, can you cater for me?
Yes we can, but it will be a very limited menu. You are probably better to cater for yourself.

Q: I have food allergies, can you cater for me?
If you have food allergies, it is best if you cater for yourself.

Q: Can I bring a group of young people to the Rendezvous?
No problem, we already have a group of Air Cadets and Scouts that come to the Rendezvous each year.

Q: My two 15 year old sons would like to attend, can they come on their own?
Sorry, Tamarack cannot take responsibility for anyone under the age of 18. They will need to be accompanied by an adult.
