Duke of Edinburgh Skills Award (Bronze)

By Mike Rushton 18 September 2014 Earlier this year 11 students from Garstang Community Academy, along with their teacher, carried out four 2 hour sessions on Bushcraft skills. I was there as an instructor, demonstrating the fundamental skills of knife safety and use, fire lighting, tarp pitching and cooking over an open fire.
All the students were enthusiastic in their approach to all the skills, asked many questions and took onboard all the information. On the 6th September we met up again, for them to demonstrate and apply all the skills taught on the evening sessions, only this time under I was the assessor. Some of the skills were a little rusty, but with a little guidance, the students all passed their Bronze skill section.
I would like to say a big well done to all students involved and also thanks to Julie Parkinson for using Tamarack and inviting me along over the years.
Looking forward to next year already...
